“白马非马”不是唯物与唯心的对立，而是辩证法与形而上学的对立。马是大概念，是一般（或共性，或普遍）；白马是小概念，是个别（或个性，或特殊）。从对立方面来看，个别当然不是一般，白马当然和马有差异，是个性和共性的差异；但从两者的统一来看，共性通过个性而存在，个别是一般中的个别，没有脱离个性的共性，也没有脱离共性的个性。白马是马的一种，把白马与马的差异过分夸大，就不对了。历史上的“白马非马”论就是把白马与马的差异绝对化，把白马从马中剥离出来，实际上就把白马与马并列了。这就是其逻辑上的错误之处。白马和马不是并列关系。这种割裂，就叫形而上学。
